🍪 Amish Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
-
Cream the butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
-
Add eggs and vanilla: Mix in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
-
Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until fully incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.
-
Scoop and bake: Drop rounded tablespoons (or use a cookie scoop) onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
-
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.
-
Cool: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
🧡 Tips:
-
For softer cookies, chill the dough for 30–60 minutes before baking.
-
Substitute dark chocolate chips or chunks for a deeper, richer flavor.
-
Amish bakers often double batches — feel free to scale up for sharing or freezing!
