Lasagna Beans is one of those recipes that seems like it should have existed for generations, yet it is actually a very modern American comfort-food creation. It captures all the flavors of traditional lasagna—rich tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, melted mozzarella, savory Italian sausage, garlic, herbs, and Parmesan—but replaces the pasta with hearty white beans.

The result is a meal that's faster, higher in protein and fiber, naturally gluten-free, and made entirely in one pan.

The History

Unlike classic Italian lasagna, whose roots date back to ancient Rome and later evolved in Emilia-Romagna during the Middle Ages, Lasagna Beans is a product of today's social media food culture.

Several trends converged in 2025–2026:

  • Higher-protein meals
  • High-fiber "Fibermaxxing"
  • One-pan dinners
  • Budget-friendly cooking
  • Pantry-based recipes

Food creators began replacing pasta with beans in many favorite dishes.

Soon there were:

  • Pizza Beans
  • Butter Beans Alfredo
  • Tuscan White Beans
  • Marry Me Beans

Then someone asked:

"Why not lasagna?"

The idea exploded.

By July 2026, Lasagna Beans had become one of the most searched and shared comfort-food recipes online.

Why It Became So Popular

Instead of layering pasta sheets, everything cooks together.

The beans absorb the tomato sauce while remaining creamy inside.

Ricotta creates the signature lasagna richness.

Mozzarella melts across the top.

Parmesan adds nutty depth.

Fresh basil finishes the dish.

It's essentially a deconstructed lasagna that takes about 30 minutes instead of several hours.

Chef Charles Knight's Health Craft Version

Creamy One-Pan Lasagna Beans

Serves 6

Cook Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or mild)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 28-ounce crushed tomatoes
  • 15-ounce tomato sauce
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) butter beans or cannellini beans, drained
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup whole-milk ricotta
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Fresh basil

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat your Health Craft 13-Inch Commercial Pro-Series® Kadai Karahi Pan over medium heat.

Brown the sausage. Remove excess fat if desired. (Sliced or casing removed)

Step 2

Add onions. Cook until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in

  • tomato paste
  • oregano
  • basil
  • thyme
  • pepper flakes

Cook until tomato paste turns a reddish-brown. Adjust the heat. Do not allow the paste to burn. Stir as needed.

Step 4

Add

  • crushed tomatoes
  • tomato sauce
  • chicken broth

Simmer 10 minutes.

Step 5

Fold in the beans.

Cook another 8–10 minutes.

Step 6

Drop spoonfuls of ricotta throughout the pan.

Sprinkle mozzarella over the top.

Finish with Parmesan.

Cover with the lid.

Cook over low heat until the cheese melts.

Step 7

Top with

  • basil
  • Parmesan
  • cracked pepper

Serve with garlic bread or a salad or both.

Waterless Health Craft Method

Because the Health Craft Casserole Kadai distributes heat evenly, there's no need to cook over high heat.

Use medium heat until the sauce begins to simmer, then reduce to low heat and cover. The heavy 5-ply stainless steel construction retains heat efficiently, helping prevent scorching while allowing the flavors to develop gently.

Chef Charles' Tip

For an extra layer of flavor, place the covered pan under the broiler for 2–3 minutes after the cheese has melted (if using an oven-safe stainless steel lid or after removing a glass lid). The mozzarella will brown beautifully while the ricotta stays creamy, creating a dish that tastes remarkably like traditional baked lasagna—with far less work.

This recipe is especially well suited to the Health Craft 13-Inch Commercial Pro-Series® Kadai Karahi Pan, whose wide cooking surface and even heat make it ideal for one-pan family meals.
