🍪 Amish Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Cream the butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

  3. Add eggs and vanilla: Mix in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  5. Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until fully incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips and optional nuts.

  6. Scoop and bake: Drop rounded tablespoons (or use a cookie scoop) onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.

  8. Cool: Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

🧡 Tips:

  • For softer cookies, chill the dough for 30–60 minutes before baking.
  • Substitute dark chocolate chips or chunks for a deeper, richer flavor.
  • Amish bakers often double batches — feel free to scale up for sharing or freezing!
