SALT and YOUR BODY

Electrolytes are essential minerals that carry an electric charge and are vital for maintaining fluid balance and overall health. The human body operates on electrical signals that regulate everything from heartbeats to brain functions. Sodium is an essential electrolyte that is more than just a seasoning; it is also a conductor of electricity. When sodium is combined with water, it dissociates into positive sodium ions (Na+) and negative chloride ions (Cl-).

Approximately 60% of the human body is made up of water. This vital fluid participates in every physiological process that occurs within us. Water is indispensable for optimal functioning, from regulating our body temperature to facilitating nutrient transport and digestion.

In a medical setting, a combination of sterile water and sodium chloride (Saline Solution) is used in hospitals to restore the body’s fluid balance and provide a vehicle for medications. Saline Solutions play a crucial role in treating dehydration and delivering essential electrolytes during medical treatments.

WHERE DOES SALT COME FROM

The processing of SALT begins with the sourcing of raw salt, which can be mined from underground salt deposits or harvested through the evaporation of seawater. ·       IODIZED TABLE SALT is a common household seasoning that plays a crucial role in preventing iodine deficiency in the diet. The primary ingredient in iodized table salt is sodium chloride NaCl, which is the same as all salt. However, what sets iodized salt apart is the addition of iodine, typically in the form of potassium iodide KI or sodium iodide NaI. Conversely, too much potassium iodide can also inhibit thyroid hormone production, leading to hypothyroidism, characterized by fatigue, weight gain, and depression. Gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are also potential side effects of excessive potassium iodide intake. Additionally, some individuals may experience allergic reactions, which can manifest in skin rashes or respiratory distress.

2.       SODIUM IODIDE, while essential in lesser amounts for thyroid function, can lead to significant health risks when consumed in excess. High intake of sodium iodide can result in a condition known as hyperthyroidism, where the thyroid gland becomes overactive, causing symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, weight loss, and anxiety. 4.       MAGNESIUM CARBONATE, excessive intake can lead to adverse effects such as diarrhea or abdominal discomfort.
