How do you consume your daily dose of 2-3 cups of fruits and vegetables per day? While it is a wonderful thought to want to eat them raw throughout your day, it is often not at all possible. Our schedules get in the way more times than not and we are stuck grabbing something on the go or skipping meals altogether. So, then I ask again, how do you consume your daily dose of fruits and vegetables?
Juicing and blending have increased in popularity in the recent years as individuals have become more conscious of what they are putting in their bodies. Studies have shown that our diets and the quality of foods we consume can have a greater impact on our weight-loss and overall health, so it makes sense that consumers are more conscious.
With the popularity of both juicing and blending, there is great controversy on which option is better for you. While some claims that juicing removes the necessary fiber we need for greater digestion, it allows for a greater concentration of nutrients to be consumed. Dark and leafy greens that are rich in cellular regenerating chlorophyll tend to have less juice in each extraction, but the nutritional values are more concentrated. Therefore, you can consume more highly concentrated juice from a larger quantity of vegetable then you would receive with blending. Additionally, a vegetable like celery is highly fibrous but the juice has great healing properties. Drinking celery juice daily can drastically reduce inflammation and improve overall digestion.
Blending is a wonderful alternative for certain fruit blends that cannot be juiced such as bananas and avocados. It is also a great alternative for full meal replacement protein shakes and smoothies. Overall, both have their own benefits and are great options to have accessible in your kitchens.
Below are our favorite juicing and blending recipes. We hope you enjoy!
Detoxifying Green Juice
- 1 cup kale
- 2 Swiss chard leaves
- ½ cup parsley
- ½ small beet
- ½ cup pineapple
- ½ green apples (use red for sweeter flavor)
- 1 sprig fresh mint
- ½ lemon, peeled
Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly in your preferred produce wash. Allow to dry. Combine all ingredients in your Juice Master from Health Craft. Stir and consume immediately. Juices maintain the most nutritional value when enjoyed immediately after extraction.
Immunity Boosting Carrot Ginger Juice
- 5 large carrots
- 1 romaine heart
- 2 clementine’s, peeled
- ½ lemon, peeled
- 1-inch knob of fresh ginger
Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly in your preferred produce wash. Allow to dry. Combine all ingredients in your Juice Master from Health Craft. Stir and consume immediately. Do not forget to use your carrot pulp for a delicious carrot cake (recipe to come).
Banana Ginger Smoothie
- 1 banana, sliced
- ¾ c (6 oz.) vanilla yogurt
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- ½ tsp freshly grated ginger
- Combine all ingredients together in blender until smooth. This is a great recipe for nausea and stomach troubles!
- Berry Good Workout Smoothie
- 1½ c chopped strawberries
- 1 c blueberries
- ½ c raspberries
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- ½ c ice cubes
Combine all ingredients together in blender until smooth.
